MXKA’s face lit up, explaining how her heritage shapes her sound and lyrics. “My mom is from Mexico and my dad is from Louisiana and so just growing up with a mutual cultural backgrounds and I just knew I wanted to represent my mexican heritiage and the music that i do.”

We also learned the inspiration behind her stage name, MXKA (pronounced MOCA). “MXKA represents who I am in my most authentic form,” she shared.
“I wanted a name that honors my roots and my story. The name itself feels like a mix of art and culture.”
